Reference project
A new community church was recently completed in Gorinchem for the Protestant district church Oosterlicht. A unique and iconic building realised together with construction partners RoosRos Architects and Burglandbouw.
The new church building was a long-cherished wish of PKN Congregation Gorinchem. After all, a building is an important link in the meeting and engagement between people. On Sundays for services and during the week as a meeting place for youth activities, coffee mornings, communal meals and discussion evenings.
The design of the building is based on the key words: the Dutch Waterline, inviting, transparent, striking, light and symbolism. Construction started in November 2021 and the church was completed on schedule and on budget by mid-2022. The healthy and future-oriented building is naturally embedded in its surroundings, has a green roof and, thanks to water retention and the use of greenery, reduces heat stress in the new residential area. Also thanks to 30 solar panels, a heat pump and triple glazing, the building is virtually energy-neutral. The embankment and green roof were designed with the Dutch Waterline as an example, of which Gorinchem is a part.
Henk de Gelder, architect at RoosRos: 'Using simple and affordable materials, we designed a contemporary iconic church.'
On the outside of the building, sandwich panels have been used on which a design block profile has been applied. This provides a modern look. The sandwich panels, fitted by Hardeman Insulation, form the building's insulating shell. In the eyes of all concerned, the church building has become an attractive, iconic and inviting building.
